The two teams recorded straight set victories over their respective opponents

Kenya Prisons and Equity Bank picked up convincing wins in their first matches played on Thursday as the sixth leg of the men's Kenya Volleyball Federation League served off at the Nyayo National Stadium.

Prisons, who were looking to put behind their woes in the fifth leg where they went down to enterprising Kenya Forest Services and almost lost their abandoned clash against GSU, got the job done as they picked up all three points when they recorded a straight set victory over siblings Western Prisons.

The team raced to 25-11 win in the first set, before putting themselves in the driving seat with a battling 25-23 victory in the second set. The team then rounded off the impressive display with a 25-11 third set win leaving head coach David Lung'aho satisfied after day one.

"The match looked relatively easy for us. We played really well and made very few mistakes. I'm happy because the most important thing was getting all three points which puts us in a very good position going into our match on Friday,"

"I think Western Prisons were a bit low in the game and I do not know why but I'm glad we made a very good start especially after not playing in a long time. It was good to see where our levels were," the head coach told Mozzart Sport.

On the other hand, Equity Bank also condemned Nyanza Prisons to a 3-0 defeat as they recorded their 25-20, 25-11, 25-16 win over Nyanza Prisons.

"We are glad that we managed a win in the first match. We have tough encounters ahead of us with the likes of Prisons Kenya but this will give us the needed momentum in the remaining games," Sammy Kirongo, Equity head coach said after the game.

On Friday, the two sides will meet up against each other in their second matches of the sixth leg.
